Lost in France

For some reason I often get turned around and a bit lost ( even with a GPS )in France.  I have taken this wrong turn many times and I do not think I could even drive here on purpose, but this is one wrong turn that always makes me smile!   Lady Liberty!  She stands  in the middle of a rotary seemingly unnoticed without a place to pull over and admire her.  Sometimes I just drive around the rotary a few time to have a look, but its hard to do that unless you are the passenger, luckily this time I was !

Near Colmar France, at least I think, I was lost.

Matt Helping

Matt helping us make tomato sauce for a lasagna at Maugenhard dorm.  Its more fun to cook for large groups when you have a lot of help !!

Advent Wreathes

A very generous mom of one of BFA's students  shares her talents with many in the community.  Last year and this year she has gathered all of the ingredients to make beautiful Advent Wreathes and teaches us how to make a them.  This year 95 women from the BFA community and local German women from Kandern got together to be creative!

Thanksgiving Dinner at the Dorm

We were blessed to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner with HBR one of the two dorms that we help out at.  Here are a few photos from the night.

Thanksgiving in Germany

At our Bi-Lingual school we share how Americans and Canadians celebrate  Thanksgiving with our German students and families.  We do this with a Thanksgiving Day Festival.  We also learned about  how the  local German community gives thanks at this time of year.    The kids have a fun filled day of crafts, games, and a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
Games in the front of our school, we were blessed with a day withOUT rain!!
This is the pumpkin craft that I helped with.

Judy

It is with great sadness that I share with you that Rob's mom Judy Shuman passed away on October 3. Rob learned of this just hours before leaving to chaperone the Junior class trip to Normandy.  Two hours after he returned back with the students he flew to Rhode Island to be with his family.  We will miss Grammy so very much, but we are grateful that we able to spend some time together this past summer.

Photo Studio

This is our makeshift photo studio in a corner of the auditorium, that we used to photograph the high school students and staff at the High School.  For you photo people, we are using a main light a reflector for fill & a hair light.  The background was made by the art department many years ago, from a sheet.

School Portraits !

I love that I can use some of my photography background at BFA !
Last week I photographed the elementary school students and this week I spent yesterday and today photographing the high school students and the HS staff.  It was so much fun !!  My weekends have been full of photographing seniors ( my favorite ) out and around our beautiful German Villages. So MUCH FUN!

Back to Teaching

All this week Rob has been teaching again !  On Thursday he will be heading by bus with the Junior Class to Normandy, France.  He  taught 5 classes a day all week to prepare the students for what they will see and about the background of D-Day.

( sorry for the poor quality I was shooting the dark !)

We did not have a track meet without rain, but from time to time the we had some clearing.  This was all we could fit under the tent during one downpour .

Prayer Request April 11

From our BFA Alumni about the search for their dad....

"Wanted to thank all of you for thinking of my family and keeping us in your prayers. For those of you who don’t know what’s going on, my dad, Jerry Krause’s plane went missing on Sunday on a flight between South Africa and Mali, around the island of Sao Tome, off the southern coast of Nigeria and the west coast of Gabon .

The US Embassy has started a search, along with the French Coast Guard as well as a few missions. Tomorrow is an important day for the search. Here are some things I’d like you to be praying for…

Pray for the plane to be found whether he is alive or with Jesus.
Pray for good weather so that the two search planes can go out as planned.
Pray that Sao Tome gets investigated by CAA South Africa so that the recordings tell the truth.
Pray for my family, as well as my grandparents, and especially for my dad.
Pray for data retrieval on his iPhone, that the battery will send off a signal and we can try to track it tomorrow.
Pray for Dad to have hope and strength and ministering angels around him."

Madrid, planes trains buses !

Last weekend Rob Chaperoned the Spanish 3 class field trip to Madrid, Spain.   It was a fast trip and cut a day short for Rob and one student.  They arrived at the airport with all the students and they were ready to board and realized one students boarding pass was for the return not the first leg of the flight.  Rob went back to get  a new boarding pass with the student and missed the boarding time.  Thats where their adventure began!   They then had to take a bus from the airport in France to the train station  in Switzerland for a 3 hour train ride to Geneva then wait 4 hours until the next flight to Madrid!   With God's protection they made it safely !
